The year 2015 saw the opening of three new libraries in Kota Belud, Matunggong and Tambunan. This means that communities in these three towns can now enjoy bigger, better, and more conducive library services.

We were also honoured and pleased to win Best Society Inclusive Website 2015 in the annual government website competition organized by the Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology.

The arrival of new replacement mobile library vans also means that, beginning 2016, school students and villagers in Tambunan, Kota Marudu and Sandakan will be able to enjoy our new mobile vans. Each mobile library is expected to serve no more than 25 service points, whether they be schools or villages within a designated area.

The building of the new Kinabatangan Branch Library, which is funded by the Federal government, will commence in 2016. We will also see the completion of the much-awaited and iconic Kota Kinabalu Regional Library in Tanjung Aru.

Sabah State Library will be going back to basics in terms of inculcating the reading habit among Sabah residents of all ages by organizing a state-wide reading campaign. This will take place in conjunction with the World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April 2016. Many exciting activities will be held throughout the week, and many agencies and organizations will be roped in to help make this event a high-impact one that we hope will result in a drastic increase in both library membership and the borrowing of books and magazines.

If you have any ideas and comments on how we can improve our library services, please feel free to email me.

Let the library help you be informed!
