History & Chronology

1996 Business Information Service (BIS) and Services to Visually Impaired Persons was officially opened in August 1996
1997 The launching of the Sabah Government Homepage by the Chief Minister YAB Datuk Yong Teck Lee
1998 1) Co Organized 5th International Training Computerized Braille Production
2) Awarded Best IT Service in conjunction with the Hari Qualiti.
3) Beluran Branch Library was officially opened.
1999 1) SSL was restructured, creating 2 Deputy Director posts and 16 Section Heads.
2) Kudat Branch Library began service in March.
3) SSL extended facilities and activities to the hearing impaired.Conducted 3rd International Workshop on Braille Production.
4) Papar Branch Library was opened to the public.
5) eMas Sabah  was launched, a joint IT project with UST and KKIP
2000 1) SSL signed MOU with FORCE Foundation making it the expert center for the blind and acts as the Secretariat for the Asia-Pacific Region in September.
2) Awarded MS ISO 9002 : 1994 by MAMPU in December.
2001 Library services moved to STC for renovation works on KK City Library
2002 Kota Kinabalu City Library was opened to public on 9th. September
2003 Shifting of Lahad Datu branch  library to the new building in May.
2004 1) Lincoln Corner was officially launched on 10th. May by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Musa Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah at Kota Kinabalu City Library.
2) Shifting to the new HQ building at Jalan Tasik in June.
2006 1)Awarded MS ISO 9001:2000 by SIRIM in June. Scope of certification: Public Library Service.
2) Sabah State Library was host to the Malaysian Libraries Sporting event.
3) Mrs. Ku Joo Bee retired in June and Mr.Wong Vui Yin took over as the new Director
2007 The Lahad Datu Branch Library was officially opened by YB Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia on February 3rd
2008 1) Restructuring of Sabah State Library, creating a post for Senior Deputy Director and 2 Deputy Directors.
2) Works on phase 3 of the headquarters building started in January.
3) New Semporna Branch Library building was officially opened on October, 20th by Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd. Shafie bin Hj. Apdal. Minister of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia.
2010 STAR rating Committee of Sabah State Library was set up on August 16.
2011 May - Staff at HQ moved to level 4 to 8 of HQ building
December 27, Kota Kinabalu Regional Library was closed
2012 February 1, Library @ Suria was opened to the public
